MARKHAM - At Highlandlake, Saturday May 19, 1900 of diabetes, Miss Clara Belle Markham, daughter of Mrs. B.F. Markham, aged 17 years 4 months and 20 days. Funeral services were held at the church at Highlandlake, Monday May 21 at 10 O'clock a.m., Rev. D.A. Strong officiating.

The deceased was born at Jackson Kansas, Oct. 29, 1882. The family soon moved to Longmont, Colorado, where she attended school at the Central for a time. In 1892 they moved to Highlandlake, and that had since been her home, In 1897 she graduated from the Highlandlake Grammar school, and in the fall entered the Longmont High School, but was unable to complete the year on account of poor health. On leaving school she regained her health until about six weeks ago, she felt unwell, and, consulting a physician she was told that she had diabetes and was incurable, but not until last Wednesday did the realize that the end was near. She attended church both Sunday morning and evening, but retired that evening never to rise in this world. Miss Markham was a young lady of exceptional qualities. Being kind and amiable, she naturally made many friends.

She was a loyal member of the Y.P.S.C.E. of Highlandlake. As an affectionate daughter, a loving sister, and faithful friend, while she lived among us, we could not but feel her influence, and now that she is gone the memory of so sweet a girl will linger in our hearts forever.
